Chaim Yehuda Leib Gottlieb

Chaim Yehuda Leib Gottlieb, a resident of Beitar Illit, married and a father of eight, works in chip verification and is active in local public life. He was born and raised in Jerusalem, where he received a Charedi education.

He lived near the Yechaveh Da’at beis midrash, where he learned from the teachings of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory. He studied at Yeshivas Nezer HaTorah, at the Slabodka yeshiva in Bnei Brak, and at Yeshivas Torah Ore in the Mattersdorf neighborhood of Jerusalem. He married at twenty, and a year later he moved to Beitar Illit. At the Torah Ore kollel he studied Choshen Mishpat in the mornings and did shimush (practical training) at the Nesivos Chaim beis din, and in the afternoons he studied the laws of Shabbos in the Dirshu program. He later moved his morning learning to a kollel in Beitar Illit, of which he was one of the founders, and there he learned the laws of Shabbos as the rosh kollel’s chavrusa.

At about twenty-three, he began academic studies at what was then called “the Haredi College,” where he brought his mathematics and English first up to high-school level and then to the five-unit level of the Israeli matriculation exams. A year later he started evening studies toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem. In the third year of his four-year degree he was accepted into a training program in pre-silicon chip verification at a company in the field, and through it worked on projects for Marvell, Rafael, and Elbit. He went on to work in Intel’s processor group, on projects in data routing, high-speed protocols, and power-state management.

From Intel he moved to L&T, where he worked for about a year and a half, developing and leading several projects. From there he went out on his own through his company, Orthodox Verification, and managed a client project verifying the logic of integrating a processor into an advanced chip. He then provided verification services, through aceVerification, to Gilat, a satellite communications company. During that period he worked from home, and Charedi developers from Beitar Illit joined his company to work in full-stack and Salesforce development. He managed their projects and worked with them on startup ideas that had not yet reached the seed stage. Alongside this, he took an entrepreneurship course run by Atidim. Later, at aceVerification’s request, he served as a consultant to Samsung: he trained the verification department in advanced verification methodology, redefined the testbench architecture, and led a team that rewrote the verification environments for image and video processing in mobile-device cameras. Recently his work has centered on research and development of AI-driven automation for building verification environments, with the AI directed to implement a human-designed architecture under human control. He is developing this approach for both chip design and pre-silicon verification.

While working at Intel he founded and ran a kollel for working Charedim in Beitar Illit, and through it came to know firsthand the difficulties faced by some young people his age and younger. In time he became increasingly involved in public life and ran for mayor. After moving to a new neighborhood in the city, he organized groups of avreichim who earn a living into communities that combine Torah and work.
